Quick fixes

The camera shows a black screen or asks for access

FilmReverseIt needs permission to use the camera. Open the Settings app, scroll to FilmReverseIt, and turn on Camera. You can still convert existing photos with Photo Library or Choose File without it.

Saving to Photos fails

FilmReverseIt only needs permission to add photos to your library. In Settings › FilmReverseIt › Photos, allow “Add Photos Only” or “Full Access”. Note that JPEG 2000 and BMP files can only be saved to Files.

The picture is blurry

Tap the film on screen to focus before taking the photo, keep the device parallel to the film using the level, and on supported iPhones turn on Macro. Make sure the film itself is flat.

Colors look wrong after converting

Check the Image Type (Color, B&W or Original), crop away the film border, then use Pick White Balance on something neutral in the picture. See fixing color casts.

Requirements

  • iPhone with iOS 27 or later, or iPad with iPadOS 27 or later.
  • A camera for scanning (any photo of a negative can also be opened without one).
  • A light pad or other even, bright light source to place the film on.

Reporting a problem

If something isn’t working, send us a message and include your device model, its iOS or iPadOS version (Settings › General › About), and what you were doing when the problem happened. A description of the film helps too.
